ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) is an eating disorder that causes physical, psychoemotional and social consequences. The disorder not only negatively impacts the person suffering from it, but can also be traumatic to their family.
ARFID, also referred to as selective eating disorder and food phobia, is not a conscious choice. It is a condition of imperatives and compulsions of mind and body. No one wants to suffer from ARFID. People with avoidant restrictive food intake disorder can not simply decide to start eating “normally” one day. It just does not work like that…
Welcome to MyFoodFear.com. My name is Adam and I suffered from an extreme case of avoidant restrictive food intake disorder for 37 years. I know exactly what you are going through as a person (or parent of a person) who simply can not eat like everyone else. Empathy is a major theme here, as is understanding, acceptance and education. If you feel different, isolated and weird, then you are welcome in this community. You will never be judged here! Learn more about me and my ARFID story.
Maybe you are more interested in telling your story. I encourage you to share here, since your words will help people in terms of understanding, acceptance and guidance. There are many eating disorder experts in the world, but few have the true insight that comes with a first person perspective of actually suffering from ARFID. Your experience matters. You can make a huge difference in other people’s lives! Share your story.
Please make yourself at home and learn all you can about ARFID. I provide lots of completely free information covering the causes, diagnosis and treatment of avoidant restrictive food intake disorder. This website contains the latest science regarding AFRID, as well as the first hand experience of actual affected people, such as myself. All of the newest posts are in my ARFID blog.
